Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy (API) or “wet acupuncture” is the injection of saline, homeopathy, vitamins (especially B12) or Chinese herbs into acupuncture or trigger points. This technique, also known as Biopuncture, has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for decades, but gained notoriety when featured on the Dr. Oz Show (2014) as “…effective, natural treatment for pain.”
The application includes fine, sterile hypodermic needles gently inserted into acupuncture/trigger points just under the skin or into the muscle. This modality is highly effective for acute injury and chronic pain where the interstitial fluid may become congested with inflammation from injured tissue, preventing the efficient nutrient and waste product transfer between the cells and the bloodstream. API therapy stimulates the acupuncture point for a much longer period of time and on a deeper level, thus enhancing the therapeutic benefit—think of it as amplified acupuncture.
It is a very useful modality for chronic conditions and is indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, lumbar/neck/shoulder pain, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, sports injuries, fibromyalgia, tendonitis and migraine headaches.
