The American Lung Association of the Southeast (ALA) in partnership with the Broward Regional Health Planning Council’s TOUCH initiative, Broward County Health Department, City of Hollywood Department of Public Works, Broward County Keep Broward Beautiful, Tobacco-Free Partnership of Broward County and the Green Team are joining forces with the “Keep Broward Beautiful” Beach Sweep, a monthly cigarette butt clean up aimed at bringing public awareness to the hazards of public tobacco use. To reduce the prevalence of secondhand smoke exposure and protect children and wildlife from tobacco litter, local community organizations are partnering in an initiative to expand the number of tobacco-free parks in Broward County. These clean ups will be hosted monthly. There are only 12 towns and municipalities in Broward County that have ordinances or resolutions designating their parks as tobacco free zones. Hollywood is one municipality that currently does not have a policy limiting smoking in parks and on beaches
