Since ancient times, numerous beneficial health effects have been attributed to chocolate consumption, including its ability to increase plasma antioxidant capacity, diminish platelet function and inflammation, and decrease diastolic and systolic arterial pressures. Data currently available indicates that daily consumption of cocoa-rich chocolate (rich in polyphenols) may at least partially lower cardiovascular disease risk. (Gomez, Gonzalez, and Batista -2013)
Many scholars and scientists since have conducted numerous studies proving the health benefits of the compounds found in cacao that are vital to cellular and biological functions in our brains and bodies.
